Glaucoma Diagnosis

Glaucoma leads to loss of vision, which is irreversible and is one of the most common causes of sight loss in the UK today. It normally results from high pressure in the eye causing damage to the optic nerve, which takes information from the eye to the brain. Once diagnosed, it requires life long follow up and treatment. Early diagnosis and treatment and regular assessment is imperative in retaining the best vision possible. Mr Modi uses the very latest technology to pick up the earliest signs of glaucoma and detect progression as it occurs. Glaucoma assessment includes: measurement of intraocular pressure with Goldmann applanation tonometry; gonioscopy and OCT to assess the drainage angle; visual field assessment with Zeiss Humphrey visual field analyser; digital measure of the retinal nerve fibre layer; measurement of corneal thickness; full assessment of the eye for secondary factors including pigment dispersion or pseudoexfoliation and finally review and discussion of all measurments and examination findings. A summary is always provided with a personalized treatment plan.

Personalised Glaucoma Care

Mr Modi provides a complete service including assessment, monitoring and treatment for both Ocular Hypertension and Glaucoma. The complete spectrum of treatment is offered and includes  eyedrop therapy, LASER (including YAG and SLT) and surgery such as minimally invasive MIGS surgery (including ECP, iStent and Xen gel stents) and conventional glaucoma surgery (Trabeculectomy).

Mr Modi is a member of the UK and Eire Glaucoma Society (UKEGS) and has a special interest in Glaucoma.

You can find further information on glaucoma and laser treatments such as selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT) in the patient information section.

The latest Spectralis OCT imaging allows the optic nerve to be accurately and reproducibly assessed. This allows glaucoma treatment to be much more precisely administered.

Anterior segment OCT allows accurate and reproducible images of the anterior segment to detect narrow angles and risk of acute angle closure.

Field of vision is irreversibly affected if glaucoma progresses. Peripheral field is usually affected first and in this image it can be seen, going from left to right, that it can move in to eventually affect the central field. Treatment is aimed at preventing this progression.

He was very professional, yet friendly. He examined thoroughly and explained in a simple way. Following his advice, the condition eased. No doubt I would contact him with any eye problem
